Anno was a friend (and, it's strongly implied, lover) of Steele's father, [[$link-6|Victor Steele]], who recruited her to work for [[$link-7|Steele Tech]] and fast-tracked her to the head of a Research & Development group at the company's headquarters. Before coming to work for Steele Tech, Anno graduated from the prestigious Ausaril Tech university with a doctorate in Warp Field Sciences, specializing in the technology and theory behind the [[$link-8|Warp Gates]] that connect the galaxy. When asked, she reveals that one of her ancestors was involved with the creation of the Gates centuries ago, which led to her family's success and wealth ever since. While working as a graduate assistant at the university, Anno met her current lover, [[$link-9| Kaede Entara]], a half-ausar undergrad who she was paid to tutor in physics. They remained together until Kaede was forced to drop out, but have gotten back together shortly before the events of ''Trials in Tainted Space''.
