Without warp gates, however, the options for leaving the homeworld were few: the [REDACTED] system is largely made of gas giants, not terrestrial worlds. The wealthiest tribes were able to hold onto their growing empires, and grew settled; it was the younger tribes who were eventually forced to leave, packing up into primitive colony ships and setting sail for nearby worlds at nearly the speed of light, on voyages that would take years or decades to complete. On the backs of these young explorers, the thraggen race took to the stars, largely by crashing irrevocably on desert worlds and wasteland planets. The starward clans began to eke out an existence on the new worlds, colonizing and terraforming to the best of their abilities, though even now most thraggen worlds are rugged and deadly wastelands between the few surviving clan holds.
