使用后，该物品将被消耗。在此过程中，它将对玩家角色产生即时的永久效果，如果玩家是人类，会将其转化为鸟族；若与其他各种转化物结合，则转化为其他种族。它极少会触发多达4种效果，而通常只会触发2种。

琥珀种子在玩家拥有马腿、猫腿或纳迦时效果会略有不同，主要体现在生殖器转化上。它也是少数能在玩家为凝胶种族时仍对其产生转化效果的物品之一，不过所有转化都会是凝胶变体。
