However, the agrarian society that sprung up on the recently christened "New Texas" quickly became something of a patriarchy. Changes to the formula did not stop there. Over the centuries of isolation, the Treatment was gradually refined. Side-effects like bull-like horns, masculine animal genitalia, and increases in lactation were viewed as welcome blessings. The Treatment became an ingrained part of New Texas' culture, a customary second puberty started at the age of eighteen. Women became euphoric, lactating, and sexually promiscuous in the extreme. New Texas' technology never really advanced beyond what they brought with them. Indeed, it's a miracle that the Treatment was as nuanced as it was a first contact.

U.G.C. diplomats were at first shocked, then pleased, then shocked before finally being pleased all over again by what they found on New Texas. It was agreed that forcing them to abandon their ways would lead to disruption on a global scale, and New Texas was allowed to continue on with the Treatment so long as it was never transferred off planet. Of course, U.G.C. scientists had to be given accumulated research data on it.

New Texas remains today as a popular but exclusive tourist destination, though roughly 20% of visitors wind up immigrating. Being cleared to visit is a right often reserved to the rich or well-connected. This provides a secondary income source for the planet.

Population is now controlled via water-distributed birth-control, helping the planet to maintain an agrarian way of life.

Chemical Composition

Only 20 percent of the Treatment's composition is publicly available. Researching or distributing information on the other 80 percent is illegal without express dispensation from the Office of Galactic Affairs. The known portion is composed of a combination of sex hormones, reprogrammable microsurgeons whose instructions are too encrypted for civilians to decipher, and high grade, brain-chemistry altering drugs most often used to treat depression. It is widely theorized that U.G.C. scientists have worked with New Texan scientists to improve the Treatment and conceal the exact nature of its mechanisms from prying eyes.
