Doctor Julian Haswell is the laboratory head at the Xenogen Biotech facility in Esbeth. When Captain Steele first meets him, Haswell is in the midst of research into the Zil, hoping to duplicate their honey-based sexual traits as a new designer cosmetic.

Appearance

The scientist's face snaps up to regard you, and you nearly take a step back under his piercing, inhuman glare. He looked like a normal enough human, sans the blue hair, but his eyes are a piercing, almost glowing blue, wrapped around a pair of deep black slits that would look more at home on a feline than a human.

History/Personality/Information of Note

Not much is known about Dr. Haswell's history besides the fact that he employed as a lead researcher for Xenogen Biotech in Esbeth.

He seems to be very invested in his science research, not reacting much to the environment around him while studying his data. As science being his only major goal, his ethics may be put into question seeing as to how his test subjects are treated while he conducts his experimentation.

Because he is so consumed with his research and not skilled enough for doing it himself, he will ask Captain Steele to retrieve test subjects for his projects.

Dr. Haswell's current quests and progress for those quests can be seen listed as Bulletins on the bounty board right outside of the Office of Customs and Governance.

Dr. Haswell has the the following quests:

Zil Capture

Dr. Haswell provides one of the first proper "quests" in TiTS: He gives Steele a capture harness, which is necessary to secure both a male and female Zil (defeating one of each in combat and then using the 'Capture' button). Doing so gives Steele a small boost to the Hard personality type, and allows an encounter to witness the captured victim being experimented upon in Haswell's lab, though he assures Steele that the subject will be released later.

Note that if Steele has arrived on Myrellion while this quest is in progress, this quest automatically ends due to landing on a planet with another Xenogen lab. Having found multiple sources of honey for their research, it can be assumed that Xenogen has all the samples that are needed, making this fetch quest redundant. This quest is intended to be a beginning planet quest and closes off when Myrellion is discovered.

Ara Kei's Diplomacy Mission

Dr. Julian Haswell is one of several scientists the player can approach to make the Pheromone Counter-Agent so that Ara's Summit will progress peacefully. He is also one of the only two scientists willing to make it, the other being Doctor Lessau. Dr. Haswell will make the permanent agent in 3 days for 70,000 Credits. Subsequently, the player can give him the Bothrioc Genealogy for 50,000 Credits if the Summit went well.
