The long time gap between simii colonization and human arrival gave the engineered species time to gain proper sapience and independence. After many fierce conflicts between terrans and the simii, the Terran-Space Coalition recognized them as a distinct species. Since then, humans have left the simii alone, and their relationship is much the same as with any other alien species.
