These ship-mounted energy weapons differentiate themselves from lasers by projecting highly concentrated beams of electrons instead of photons. While they consume massive amounts of energy, they are more effective at disrupting shields than EM weapons and are overall terrifyingly destructive weapons in the vacuum of space.
