After talking to Shizuya and Anno (if she is a crew member), quite a bit can be learned about her past. She was once a small, nerdy kaithrit girl who was always shunned growing up because she was born a hermaphrodite. After college, she was hired by Akkadi R&D and was put to work on a project to miniaturize warp gate technology as a part of Anno's team. Her boyfriend was used as a test subject but never returned and is presumed dead. Distraught, Shizuya quit Akkadi and went on to roam the galaxy in drunken hysteria. She was eventually picked up by two treated men and was offered a Treatment injection to "fix" everything she hated about herself. But, unknown to them, it was actually an Overdose injection. Not much is known about Overdose but, it is a reverse-engineered version of the UGC's attempt to recreate the original Treatment. It is supposedly based on a 200-300 year old UGC formula but has been recently popped up again, being made from scratch within the last fifteen years. Shizuya managed to react "okay" to the injection and turned into the giant of a woman Steele is familiar with. Afterwards, Shizuya attempted to be a pirate. Her first hit just so happened to be a Black Iron ambush, and after she managed to make it to the bridge she was forced to surrender at gunpoint by Kenka who, rather than killing her, asked Shizuya to work for her. She joined Black Iron, married and had two kids with Kenka, got her own ship and crew, and has been working contracts ever since.
