Connecting their necks to the tips of each of their shoulders is a thin membrane, only about one inch thick. They are commonly referred to as ‘tassels’. It originally came about as an evolutionary advantage; the membranes regulated blood flow from the body to the head and could control the creature’s body temperature depending on the climate, and they could be flared to intimidate predators. Once the Daynar evolved to their more humanoid form and they began living more civilized lives, the tassels lost their defensive purpose, and climate control makes regulating their body temperature easy, but they remain as vestigial evidence of their origins. Many daynar have taken to ‘decorating’ their membranes, painting tattoos and designs on them, and adorning them with all manner of piercings.
