Kaede is an introverted young woman who's currently employed as an independent cargo hauler aboard her ship, Talon Rogue. Originally male, she transisted to female shortly after entering adulthood -- although retained her ausar penis, and a preference towards female lovers. She was raised by a single parent, Tavros's chief mechanic Zeke Entara, with little involvement from her mother, Amara Faell -- who, unbeknownst to her, is a Black Void pirate. She attended Ausaril Tech, a prestigious university on the ausar homeworld, at the same time that Anno Dorna was working as a graduate assistant there. The two became lovers shortly after Anno started tutoring her, though the relationship came to an end after a little less than two years when Kaede was forced to drop out due to financial restraints. They've since gotten back together after a few years apart, shortly before Captain Steele met them. (See The gene stealer for the event of how that happened)
