Kelly grew up on a spaceport and had a desire to explore the universe. When she was 21 years of age, she bought a starrider to satisfy that desire. Unfortunately, her ride broke down and she had to sell her vehicle to the nearest spaceport but for very little money in return. Financially strangled and physically stranded, she managed to hitchhike her way to Mhen'ga only to find that the captain abandoned her there when Kelly refused to have sex with her.
